What should I watch if I don't know what to watch?

Sometimes you hear this line “I don’t know what to watch” or “There is nothing to watch on Netflix”. While we are not endorsing Netflix, the fact is most people watch Netflix to relax and it would be sad to ignore this reality and not recommend some genuinely good films that are available there.

So here goes it - a list to keep you entertained during the summer! So when you do log onto Netflix, you’re able to look at this list and know for certain that these films will actually edify you as opposed to deflate you.

P.S. Each country have different films available to them on Netflix. This list is based on what is available in Ireland. If you are not living in Ireland, we hope this list works for you too!

 

Here are some films that are worth the watch


 

Gifted Hands. The Ben Carson Story (2009)
Dr Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon, contemplates a strategy to operate on a pair of conjoined twins. Soon, an idea strikes him, making him take a risk to go through with his plan.

Lion (2016)
Saroo gets separated from his family at the age of five and ends up being adopted by an Australian couple. However, 25 years later, he returns to India to search for his birth parents.

The Big Short (2015)
In the mid-2000s, a few finance experts observe the instability in the US housing market and predict its collapse. Through their research, they discover the flaws and corruption in the system.

The Hunger Games (2012)
Katniss volunteers to replace her sister in a tournament that ends only when one participant remains. Pitted against contestants who have trained for this all their life, she has little to rely on.

Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Mrs Bennet insists that her daughters find rich husbands and settle down. When a wealthy bachelor starts living near them, Mrs Bennet's happiness knows no bounds.

The Blind Side (2009)
Michael, a homeless African-American teenager, is adopted by a Caucasian family who help him overcome his learning difficulties and achieve excellence in American football.

Argo (2012)
An exfiltration specialist masquerades as a Hollywood producer in order to rescue six Americans who are held captive in Tehran during the US hostage crisis in Iran.

Moneyball (2011)
Billy Beane, a baseball general manager, and Peter Brand, an economics graduate, challenge convention as they try to form a competitive sports team using computer-based methods.

Les Miserables (2019)
Laurent, also known as Pento, joins the crime squad in the Seine-Saint-Denis. Later, he develops distinctive methods to solve crimes while working with two colleagues.

The Others (2001)
Grace moves into a new house with her two photosensitive children in Jersey. When a series of inexplicable events occur, Grace starts believing that her house is haunted.

The King's Speech (2011)
King George VI tries to overcome his stammering problem with the help of speech therapist Lionel Logue and makes himself worthy enough to lead his country through World War II.

Castaway (2001)
After a deadly plane crash, Chuck Nolan finds himself marooned on a desolate island. With no way to escape, Chuck must find ways to survive in his new home.

The Pianist (2003)
During the WWII, acclaimed Polish musician Wladyslaw faces various struggles as he loses contact with his family. As the situation worsens, he hides in the ruins of Warsaw in order to survive.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Tired of Chris's professional failures, his wife decides to separate, leaving him financially broke with an unpaid internship in a brokerage firm and his son's custody to deal with.

Sully: Miracle on the Hudson (2016)
Captain Chesley, a commercial pilot, makes an emergency landing on the Hudson River after his plane gets hit by birds. However, an investigation into the matter might prove to be fatal to his career.

The Impossible (2013)
Maria, Henry and their three kids decide to spend Christmas in Thailand. But their luxurious holiday turns into a nightmare when a tsunami swells up unannounced, thereby separating the family.

Munich (2005)
A terrorist organisation kills eleven Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. However, a team of five men, headed by Avner Kaufman, is assigned the task of killing the terrorists as revenge.

The Trial of Chicago 7 (2020)
The film is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy and more, arising from the countercultural protests in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The trial transfixed the nation and sparked a conversation about mayhem intended to undermine the U.S. government.

The Farewell (2019)
A Chinese family learns that their grandmother has less time to live so they organise a wedding before her death. However, Billi is unhappy with the family's decision.

Dark Waters (2019)
Robert, a defence lawyer, goes up against a corporation to stop it from polluting a water source and endangering the lives of the people. However, he is forced to jeopardise his life to expose them.
